The Abbey: Food & Bar expansion took place in several phases. Each addition or alteration required its own structural features, enhancements, or retrofits, to meet the stringent City of Los Angeles building code. Changes in wall openings needed remedial moment-frames designed to provide, or re-introduce, lateral stability to the effected portion of the building. The removal of interior load bearing partitions required a clear-span solution for the existing roof. Finally, the dramatic Tower façade, a mid-construction design change, required adaptation of the already-in-place simple moment-frame, roof beams, and foundation which were inspected and approved in an earlier phase..
